This is a rare opportunity for a professional and talented Systems Support Analyst to join the team at the highly successful MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetic and Genomics (CNGG). Headed by Professor Sir Michael Owen, the CNGG is Wales's only research centre examining the genetics of mental illness and performing cutting edge studies of the genetics of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

You will perform a key role in the CNGG IT Centre of Expertise, a professional service delivery team providing an efficient service to all groups within the CNGG, and in particular the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Unit (BBU). This will include writing, collating, optimising and packaging the many different types of computer programs written within the BBU, ensuring a single high standard is applied to all code so that it can be published and released to the public domain for wider research. You will also maintain the computer cluster and support the implementation of parallel computing strategies to manage and analyse the very large genomic datasets currently being generated by the CNGG and its collaborators.

Your substantial knowledge and experience in problem, error and knowledge management analysis, resolution and delivery techniques will be essential to this role, as will your significant experience and skills in Linux Systems Administration. Experience in the installation, porting and documentation of web and command line driven applications, applications packages and utilities across multiple platforms is key. You should also be able to demonstrate an effective teamworking ethos with a clear ability to provide an efficient and effective service to both internal and external customers.
