Software Trainer / Technical Author - Chester Circa £25-35K. Our growing client based in Chester is currently looking for a Software Trainer / Technical Author to work in the training team.

The prime responsibility of this role is to understand often highly technical products and services, primarily within the telecommunications arena, and to develop and deliver documentation and training solutions to suit audiences as diverse as end-user customers to installation engineers.

The role involves technical authoring resulting in the production of standard guides and manuals help text and increasingly a requirement for online and multimedia based material.

Secondary aspects of the role include the delivery of engineering and customer leader led training courses on the products within the companies training portfolio. These courses may be delivered as residential events at the client, on line web casts and onsite training in the UK and on occasion, overseas.

Key Role Requirements:

1. Production of written documentation, guides and manuals with text and graphics content, to a standard clients format.

2. Production of training courses and all associated materials.

3. Production of content in new formats, such as web based, hosted, video, interactive, etc.

4. Management and delivery of face to face and online training events.

5. Ability to understand products and solutions of a technical nature by using a hands on approach

6. A background knowledge of voice and data communications.

7. A good understanding of typical content development tools, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia and others.

8. To bring to the team, new approaches to training content creation/delivery.

9. Management of training resources, equipment, training rooms, etc.

Personal profile:

Personality: A highly literate and technically biased individual. Results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on producing quality documentation and training material. The individual should be reliable, a team player and be able to work to tight time lines. They should have excellent communication skills and be well presented. The individual should be flexible to travel as required within the UK and potentially abroad to conduct training events.

Personal Situation:

The individual should be able to work extended hours on occasions as required, to meet deliverable deadlines. On occasion, extensive travel within the UK may be required to fulfil customer training requirements.

Must have clean driving licence.

Specific Job Skills:

Able to effectively communicate via written media. Understands the basis of producing training and documentation material and appreciates the need for consistency and quality of material produced.

Reporting and Administration.

Perform all role related administrational duties whilst maintaining adherence to content build consistency and version control.

Complete version control logs when creating/ editing training content.

Fill in time management tool (Harvest) to demonstrate duties on a daily basis.

Computer skills: Must be adept in use of Microsoft Office particularly PowerPoint and Word, and ideally have experience of using Adobe Captivate, Camtasia and other multimedia development tools.

Telephony skills: Experience of the telecommunications industry particularly from a technical engineering perspective would be most valuable. Particularly in relation the telecommunications products within Avaya's portfolio.

Literacy and Numeracy: Should have good literacy skills in order to produce high quality documentation and training material.

Training Skills: The individual must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator. Training experience would be beneficial for this role; however of equal importance is a flexible approach to work and a willingness to learn new skills.
