About the role

Conducted every ten years and with a history spanning over 200 years, the census helps to paint as accurate a picture of the nation as possible. The survey is delivered on an extraordinary scale, and involves every resident across the UK. The data captured then assists the government in making key decisions, as well as businesses and the general public. Since the last census in 2011, digital has transformed the way we live and work. In 2021, census surveys will be primarily completed online. With this in mind, the next census will require a complete overhaul in terms of both design and operation.

How do we design and build a census that is both coherent and consistent? How do we develop a testing strategy for the census that is secure and sustainable? How do we understand the needs of key stakeholders and align these with the programme’s overall objectives? From defining business processes across the Programme, to supporting the design and development of test surveys, your role as Business Analyst will be imperative to the Census Transformation Programme (CTP). Working across multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), you’ll liaise with key stakeholders to understand their problems and needs. We’ll look to you to document and report results from each stage of testing, providing detailed analysis and reports on the outcomes. Your work will be integral to both the delivery and quality of the programme. This role presents an exciting and unique opportunity, to enhance and influence the 2021 Census at its various stages of development.

About you

As a qualified Business Analyst, you’ll bring a wealth of relevant expertise to the role. Ideally, you’ll have some experience of providing business analysis for a public facing organisation, such as within the retail, banking or public sectors. If you have experience of being involved in the full project lifecycle, from analysis through to operations, even better. While you’re a great communicator, listening is also a strong part of your skill-set, and you’re able to articulate information in a way that is clear and concise, particularly around reporting and documenting of tasks.

About the census

The census statistics help paint a picture of the nation and how we live. It provides information regarding the population and its characteristics, and underpins funding allocation decisions to provide public services. The scale of the census is extraordinary as it involves the participation of every resident of England and Wales.
