Major objectives

This Project Manager role reports into the AAT Change Programme and will be instrumental in leading the delivery of key projects that are at the heart of AAT’s strategy.

The role will play a central role in driving the organisation towards:

- interpreting the strategy into targeted initiatives

- translating the initiatives into achievable projects

- scheduling the portfolio of projects (through an overall programme plan)

- controlling the realisation of projects through managing the structure and information, including reporting

- Understanding and managing the impact of projects across AAT’s business and operating models

The AAT Change Programme:

- gives AAT leadership greater control

- works with the operations to deliver capability to realise benefits

- surfaces interdependencies across the projects

- increases organisation buy-in

For specific projects, the Project Manager will drive the identification of business requirements, and working with operational teams, identify how AAT needs to develop capability for sustainable change. They will need to be able to help the business to be able to articulate how project outputs directly contribute to the achievement of AAT’s business plan and the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation. The Project Manager reports into the programme to ensure that their project(s) contribute to the overall programme objectives.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are to scope and plan projects. They will then manage day-to-day activity so that project outputs are aligned with agreed benefits, ensuring they:

- deliver the project outputs within the agreed time, cost, scope and quality constraints through their individually assigned projects

- control the project and report on progress including change requests

- carry out detailed analysis/modelling of data to develop optimal solutions

- support the Change Programme Manager to deliver programme requirements impacted by the project

- ensure the development of best practice project management across the organisation through supporting staff at all levels

- manage and motivate the project teams

- work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective

- define, monitor and manage the project plan including contingency

- define, monitor and manage project scope and dependencies e.g. using wireframes and user journeys etc.

- resolve and problem solve project issues as they arise and escalate pressing issues to the PMO, Project Director and/or Project Board as appropriate through the Programme Manager

- report to and taking direction from the Programme Board via the Programme Manager

- manage and liaise with suppliers where necessary

- liaise with the business through work stream leads and other key individuals

- produce project document and maintain project files

- develop and maintain relevant documentation as guided by the Programme Manager

- work with Programme Accountant to develop the project budget and monitor actuals, reporting to the programme as necessary

- raise purchase orders and updating GRNs

- develop friendly, positive and supportive relationships with external and internal customers, and to provide them with excellent service

- actively learn from customer feedback, comments and suggestions, including complaints

- review and improve existing processes, and by doing so to anticipate other customers’ needs. To communicate this knowledge to relevant colleagues from within or outside the Journey team

- meet and strive to exceed teams’ customer service standards

- understand situations from the customers’ perspective so that appropriate and relevant solutions can be identified

Person specification

Experience

Essential:

- 5 years’ experience in a Project Manager post working across a varied project portfolio in a variety of organisational sectors.

- Proven track record of delivering projects across multiple streams in a matrixed organisation.

- Experience of engaging stakeholders and customers at a senior level, adapting style and approach accordingly.

- Demonstrable experience in helping businesses define cost effective pragmatic business solutions.

- Working as part of a team.

- Budget management.

Desirable:

- Understanding of Agile project methodology

- Customer centricity - strong customer focus both internal and external.

Summary of standard terms and conditions

Salary: circa £55,000 per annum (depending on experience).

Working hours: 35 hours per week.

Annual leave: 30 days and statutory bank holidays plus two discretionary days for Christmas (office shuts between Christmas and New Year).

Life assurance: four times annual salary.

PHI: income protection is offered subject to terms of the policy.

Pension: AAT comply with its obligations and duties under auto-enrolment legislation in accordance with the Pensions Act 2008. The current qualifying arrangement for auto-enrolment purposes is AAT's Group Personal Pension Scheme. If you chose to increase your contribution AAT will contribute up to a maximum of 10.15%. Further details would be given on joining the organisation.
