Cancer Research Technology (CRT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cancer Research UK, is a vibrant drug discovery and commercialisation company which aims to advance new discoveries to beat cancer. To help achieve this goal, CRT has its own drug discovery laboratories, CRTDL based at locations in Cambridge and central London.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the in house IT team delivering support to a technically demanding and dynamic environment engaged in novel drug discovery research with commercial collaborators. The jobholder will be responsible for effectively maintaining and managing all desktop PCs and associated Applications, principally Microsoft Office and specialist scientific applications, across all CRT sites but with particular responsibility for laboratories in Cambridge.

The jobholder will be expected to act as the first point of contact for all PC Users who require Desktop Support and work in conjunction with the Head of IT with ongoing projects as required. You will be aware of industry developments with a view to adopting new technologies and practices to enhance CRT’s business processes.

You will be an experienced desktop support analyst who has strong Wintel experience and can demonstrate excellent fault finding skills. You will possess a Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 3 years' experience providing 1st / 2nd line support. Experience of implementing and supporting Microsoft Office, Exchange, and other standard office applications in a business network environment, as well as a wide range of specialist scientific applications is essential. You will be expected to demonstrate: knowledge of LAN and WAN networking, a good understanding of TCP/IP, experience of commercial AV products e.g., Symantec, MS LYNC, LANDESK and using Windows operating systems with working knowledge of PC architectures, Networks, and Client Server relationships.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and time management skills who has the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively. You will be self-motivated and able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure. You will have experience of dealing with people in a customer orientated environment.

The position will be based at our Cambridge site with regular travel to London.
