About the role

Strong, inventive IT is a critical ally in our mission to protect people, wildlife and properties from environmental risks. And with over 11,000 internal users and countless customers relying on our IT to support their work, we’ve never been more technology-focused than we are right now.

Joining us as a Graduate IT Trainee, you’ll enjoy a two-year, hands-on training programme tailored to your needs and aspirations. You’ll work in our innovative Corporate Information Services (CIS) department, getting involved in real projects, building valuable skills and making a considerable impact on the organisation. Your first year will be spent rotating around different departments within CIS, completing interesting placements and experiencing what the diverse teams do. In your second year, you’ll specialise in a department that best suits your interests and ambitions. We have big, exciting plans for the future of our Information Services so your role on our IT graduate programme will be vital and valued. With a mentor and line manager to support you and help you develop, we’ll give you the tools and training you need to become a fully-fledged member of the team and develop a rewarding career, right here.

About you

You’re degree-educated, ideally in a Business/IT related subject, with a keen interest in technology. We’d like you to have a fair understanding of IT and you’ll be looking to build on this and learn more to further develop your knowledge. Your ‘softer skills’ are important too: you’ll need to be enthusiastic, positive, driven and comfortable developing good working relationships with people. Open to learning new things, you’ll get fully involved in different areas of our work, making the most of the broad insight you’ll gain on this diverse IT graduate scheme.

Additional information

The programme runs from September 2015 to September 2017. You’ll then be able to apply for a permanent position with us. We outsource much of our technical support to Capgemini so there may be opportunities to work with them, and our other service partners during your second year.

About the rewards and benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits and rewards on top of your competitive salary, holiday allowance and career average pension scheme. You can look forward to a variety of flexible working options, dependent on business needs, to help you achieve a positive work-life balance. We also offer great occupational health benefits and shopping, leisure, fitness and travel discounts. We’re committed to providing you with the training, learning and development support that you need to grow and achieve great things in your career.

About us

We are the Environment Agency. We operate at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We reduce the risks to people and properties from flooding; make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate.
