Purpose of job:

Responsible for the Technical Project Managers within Design & Development and the portfolio of technical projects, their lifecycle and with a focus on execution in order to deliver upon promises to the business and meet expectations.

As Senior Project Manager, expectation will be to drive complex engagements ¡¥hands on¡¦ whilst nurturing Technical Project Managers and embedding best practice.

Context and environment:

The purpose of Global Information Services (GIS) in the British Council is to partner with the business in order to make effective use of Information in all its forms across the organisation. GIS has accountability for enabling the full life-cycle of information for the whole of the business.

The British Council has undertaken a strategic review of its operating model including the creation of a new GIS operating model. This role is part of the new GIS team responsible implementing this operating model.

This role is located within the GIS Design and Development team and reports to the Director of Design & Development. The GIS Design and Development team is responsible for designing and developing information services that provide sustainable value to the business by maximising benefits and minimising one-off and ongoing delivery risks.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:

Responsible for the Technical Project Management team & capability for the definition, documentation and satisfactory completion of technical projects (typically lasting 6-12 months, with direct business impact, working in a matrix environment).

Working in a matrix organisation with Design and Development expertise across London, Manchester, Warsaw and Noida with Resource Planning & Optimisation to ensure effective delivery.

Embeds best practice, fosters a goal-orientated team, pro-actively reads the road ahead for programmes in flight and assists Technical Project Managers to remove roadblocks and to own escalations.

Hands On Project Management of complex engagements with a typical duration of 12+months.

Develops and maintains one or more defined communication channels and/or stakeholder groups, acting as an escalation path and owner of projects in execution across Design & Development with support of the Technical Project Management team.

Engages closely with business solutions team / SBU¡¦s in order to ensure the GIS portfolio of Technical Projects are optimised to support the overarching Programmes in terms of milestones, issues, risks and scope.

Occasional travel between offices - London Manchester Warsaw and Noida, India.
