Purpose of job:

To project manage technical engagements, driving technical teams to achieve timelines within budget and quality. Strong stakeholder management skills, effective problem solving abilities and change management.

Collaborates across technical teams in London, Warsaw, Manchester, Delhi and 3rd party suppliers based in India.

Context and environment:

The purpose of Global Information Services (GIS) in the British Council is to partner with the business in order to make effective use of Information in all its forms across the organisation. GIS has accountability for enabling the full life-cycle of information for the whole of the business.

The British Council has undertaken a strategic review of its operating model including the creation of a new GIS operating model. This role is part of the new GIS team responsible implementing this operating model.

This role is located within the GIS Design and Development team and reports to the Senior Project Manager (PM lead). The GIS Design and Development team is responsible for designing and developing information services that provide sustainable value to the business by maximising benefits and minimising one-off and ongoing delivery risks.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:

- Takes full responsibility for the Project Management team & capability for the definition, documentation and satisfactory completion of technical projects (typically lasting 6-12 months, with direct business impact, working in a matrix environment).

- Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project portfolio along with problem solving and resource optimisation.

- Ensures that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and provides regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate. -Ensures Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure.

- Manages the change control procedure, and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off.

- Develops and maintains one or more defined communication channels and/or stakeholder groups, acting as a single point of contact.

- Facilitates open communication and discussion between stakeholders, using feedback to assess and promote understanding of need for future changes in services, products and systems. Agrees changes to be made and the planning and implementation of change.

- Maintains contact with the customer and stakeholders throughout to ensure satisfaction. Captures and disseminates technical and business information.

- Ensures that management is both aware of and able to provide the required resources, and that available resources are properly utilised and accounted for.

- Monitors and reports on the progress of systems development projects, using appropriate quality assurance processes to ensure that projects are carried out in accordance with agreed standards, methods and procedures.

- Indirect people management through matrix, across the business but predominantly within GIS.
