Established nearly 190 years ago we remain loyal to our mission to provide applied higher education, cutting edge research, strategic business engagement and an excellent student experience. Today a University with 22,000 students, graduate employment at 94%, recognised for world leading research across all our research areas, we are a key player in the economic regeneration of this industrial heartland.

This is a new post, created to support the University’s Business Intelligence and Data Management in transition from projects to ‘Business As Usual’. Working as part of a specialist team within IT Services (located within the Directorate of Academic Support), you will support the data warehouse being established to enable and underpin Business Intelligence (BI) reporting and other applications, assisting with the design, implementation and pro-active maintenance aspects of this. You will also provide advice, support, administration, performance management, security installation, upgrades, configuration, backup and recovery for the University’s database applications, which are MS SQL Server based. You will have knowledge (and ideally experience) of data warehousing/dimensional modelling, possess excellent SQL skills and demonstrate experience in database administration in a similar setting (i.e. large public/private sector organisation or HEI), and will also have experience of working with databases to develop applications and services.

You will also carry out expert diagnostics and troubleshooting, provide technical leadership and best practice advice for MS SQL database configuration and usage across IT Services teams. Understanding of data quality, integrity, performance and security issues is essential. Familiarity with the Microsoft Windows server and database toolsets is essential, and experience of working with Data Quality Services, Master Data Services and Integration Services would be advantageous. There is a strong requirement to work effectively as an individual, but also to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a virtual team providing and facilitating BI reporting for the University. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team supporting Business Intelligence and Data Management for the University.
