Background

- The Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs announced in May 2013 that Historic Scotland (HS) and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) will come together to create a new Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) called Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which will deliver a more resilient, sustainable and effective heritage organisation, streamlining and improving our functions to support the historic environment sector and those who use it to understand, value and protect this rich resource

- You will be responsible for the day-to-day and project based development, support and maintenance of Application Express and Forms & Reports based database applications running on Oracle WebLogic cluster products using Oracle database RAC & ASM (11g & 12c) on Oracle Linux 6 operating systems across development and live environments for RCAHMS and its partners.

- You will be part of the database team within the Information Systems department of HS and RCAHMS.

This team will become the HES database team in October 2015.

It currently consists of two database developers (RCAHMS), three database developers and a database administrator (HS).

This team will be managed by a database operational manager with project developments run by a project manager/scrum master.

Duties:

-Day-to-day development, support and maintenance of Oracle databases applications

- Planning and implementing relevant projects to oversee development of RCAHMS databases and applications.

- Monitoring the progress of projects and programmes of work, for which the post is responsible, to ensure that standards are maintained

- Milestones and targets are met and objectives achieved.

- Liaison with relevant external groups and outside bodies, including representing RCAHMS at meetings.

- Other duties delegated by the Head of Information Systems or by the Information Systems Operational Manager

Specific Objectives:

- Maintenance + production support of existing Application Express applications, SOAP web services + mod_plsql data services using Oracle procedures.

- Design and development of new Application Express applications, SOAP web services and pl/sql data services using Oracle packaged procedures.

- Design and development of new schemas, data models, application objects and the generation of supporting pl/sql packages and objects
