This is an exciting opportunity to join the British Museum and manage the successful delivery of all aspects of collections storage, moves and other projects in Collections Services, from brief to closure and evaluation, including responsibility for budgets. The role will also provide strategic support to the Head of Department.

Key areas of responsibility:

- To define the scope, methodology, resource, skills and budget requirements for individual projects, ensuring clear project objectives are developed.

- To deliver complex projects to time and budget, ensuring effective use of available resources.

- To develop and lead multidisciplinary project teams that will include specialists based both within and outside of the Collections Services department.

- To lead on the procurement of specialist consultants, contractors and suppliers for projects such as collections storage designers and manufacturers, defining the scope of work, leading the tender process, and managing contracts.

- To develop project schedules to align with the Museum’s wider programme of activities in collaboration with the Collections Programme Manager.

- To provide regular reports on progress, budget, issues and risks to the Museum senior management team.

Person Specification:

It is essential that the post holder has a degree or equivalent experience and a recognised project management qualification. The successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for and experience of managing and successfully delivering complex projects. An experienced project manager of major public-facing or high value projects, you will also have proven experience of managing project processes such as risk management, issue resolution and budget management (including reporting). You will need excellent communication and organisational skills as well as the ability to persuade and influence others. You will also have a proven ability to work flexibly and use initiative to solve complex problems. Desirable qualities in the ideal candidate include experience of managing major collections storage moves or documentation projects, and experience in a management role in the museum/gallery/heritage sector.
