The Organisation

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

CPRD, jointly funded by the agency and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), is the UK’s preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data for research. CPRD services are designed to maximise the way anonymised NHS clinical data can be used to improve and safeguard public health. For more than 20 years data provided by CPRD has been used in a range of observational studies such as drug safety and epidemiological research resulting in over 1500 publications. The UK is in a unique global position to use clinical records in novel ways for patient recruitment and clinical trials management and follow up. CPRD is at the forefront of this innovation and is developing services and tools to support a growing portfolio of clinical intervention studies.

Purpose of Role:

This is a Project Management role to lead a major business led, technological change project being undertaken within CPRD and the wider Agency. This will consist of the analysis, specification, planning, implementation, go-live and transition of the Project, and will involve both the procurement and design / build challenges across three major phases of activity:-

1. Lead the delivery of a business specification for the new solution,

2. Manage the procurement of specific Hardware, Software and associated services, and

3. Plan / implement client facing services to deliver the results and objectives of the Project.

Initially there will be research work to be undertaken in the development of the specification by working with senior business leaders and the identification of potential systems available in the market.

Working as part of a core team, the PM will work with the business, procurement and IT experts together with managing and controlling multiple vendors to delivery.

This is a challenging project for a complete system rebuild of one of our critical technology database products, which is to be achieved within a tight timeline. The individual must be delivery focused and will require PM and relationship building skills coupled with experience of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) software tools and processes, data handling and database technologies, building process workflows and release / cut over strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver project management across all aspects of work to deliver a replacement research platform to recognised standards

Apply standards to the project which meet Government, DH, MHRA and CPRD best practice

Enhance CPRD’s delivery capabilities. Demonstrate to existing and potential customers and stakeholders that we are committed to the delivery of the highest standard of service

Provide advice on project integration to other CPRD systems and delivery

People Management across the CPRD and MHRA organisations where there is no line management responsibility for staff on the project
