As the Head of General Insurance Legal you will develop, lead and manage a legal team responsible for the delivery of a range of high quality legal advice and assistance in order to deliver the business needs of Lloyds Banking Group - General Insurance and other relevant areas within Insurance and the wider Group. General Insurance is a group of regulated general insurance legal entities. The principal brands are Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland and products are sold through intermediaries and direct.

You will work effectively with senior management and executives across various Insurance and other Group functions and proactively challenge, advise and influence senior management and executives on a wide range of legal issues with particular emphasis on supporting the general insurance business within Insurance. You will advise on such matters as the negotiation of external and intra group SLAs, distribution and underwriting agreements, significant insurance product issues and large value claim related disputes, in order to protect and develop General Insurance, Insurance Division and the overall interests of the Group.

Your key accountabilities include leading, managing and controlling the provision of all legal services to General Insurance while contributing to the strategic direction of the business and wider Legal community. You will act as a trusted advisor, engaging key senior stakeholders to influence and advise on key business decisions including participation in Boards, Committees and other Fora.

Leading on Legal input into projects supporting General Insurance or the wider business is key, as is managing appropriate resource to meet business needs. You will build and maintain a high performing team to ensure colleagues are led and developed effectively and embed the Lloyds Banking Group culture and vision through visible leadership. Developing and ensuring the implementation of medium term operational plans specific to supporting your own area is imperitive - taking into account the wider business, legal/ governance and regulatory context.

You will have the opportunity to make recommendations relating to the organisational design to ensure it is fit for purpose and lead advice to business areas and your team on corporate governance and legal risk management, using the relevant risk management policy framework. You will proactively build, develop and maintain external and internal network and relationships to provide appropriate professional advice to achieve the Group's objectives - leading on the reporting and escalation of legal or governance issues and change recommendations within own/ supported area, recommending solutions as required.

To be successful in the role you will hold strong influencing skills, with the ability to deliver sound, practical and clear advice to colleagues (including at executive level) across the business and you will be a qualified solicitor or barrister/ advocate. In-house and/ or private practice experience within the Insurance sector is required (in house experience should be gained within a general insurer), as is Legal experience in general insurance contractual work, product development, claims and regulatory advisory. Knowledge of consumer credit law would be an advantage.

Experience in managing a team of lawyers and delivering complex projects within a legal context is key as is the proven ability at managing a legal department covering a diverse range of work in a large insurance group.
