The DIO has the responsibility for the management of property, infrastructure and related services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and, critically supporting military capability to the best effect.

The Data, Analytics & Insight function's role in DIO is to deliver services to the whole organisation to manage and exploit data. The Business Intelligence (BI) function within DA&I is a new function focused on defining, developing, exploiting and supporting the capabilities to enable the wider DIO.

The Business Intelligence - Training & Support Manager leads the support and training activity to end users in the delivery of MI, reporting and data discovery/analysis utilising the tools used within the BI function. The role defines the testing programme as part of the capture of user requirements, helping to structure these into clearly articulated list of activities assigned to named individuals with success criteria defined.

Therefore, the post requires an individual who is highly collaborative and able to engage with stakeholders to advise and support their needs and apply knowledge on the capability of BI to help define how BI can provide a solution to their business challenges, as well as the day-to-day engagement with the user base to understand the future requirements to provide an excellent level of user support. A key part of this role is to manage the user community to promote good practice, knowledge sharing and collaborative working.

The post has to interact with stakeholders at all levels across DIO as well as the BI function as a whole. The postholder must have credibility based upon experience of delivering via the use of BI tools and be able to represent the relevant teams based upon experience in the following key areas: exploitation of BI tools; the definition and oversight of user acceptance testing activities; user engagement and the capability of the BI function to deploy; integrating activities into a delivery plan; project management principles; the provision of a support desk service to end users; management of user groups and facilitating workshops to promote good practice and influence attitudes.
