Northgate Public Services are a leading provider of Software Solutions and Outsourcing to the Public Sector with clients including Government Departments and Agencies, Local Authorities, Health, Emergency Services and Housing. Due to continued success and growth, we require an experienced 3rd Line Unix Support Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Key responsibilities:

- Provide input for and implementation of on-going Solaris infrastructure improvement plan.

- Provide day to day BAU 3rd level Solaris 11 support for the business.

- To manage problems through to resolution escalating proactively and formally as necessary;

- Maintaining effective working relationships with customer and Northgate colleagues

- Manage directly the issues of assigned projects by interfacing with the technical personnel employed by the end user, the Main Contractor, suppliers, sub-contractors; within targeted quality bounds and to targeted timescales

- Assist with pre-sales solution design and scoping of services;

Extensive Experience and working knowledge of:

- Solaris 11 (ZFS, IPS,SMF)

- Oracle Clusterware

- SAN connectivity and Solaris 11

- Oracle Zones on Solaris 11

- Networking with Oracle Zones including DLMP.

- Oracle Enterprise Manager OPS Center.

- Backup and recovery of systems running Solaris 11

- Performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

- Presentable and professional IT person who has excellent communication skills, working with minimal direction but promoting an open flow of information so that all concerned are well informed;

- Effective relationships builder, developing working relationships with clients and individuals in other business units;

- Working knowledge of the project life-cycle, structured methodologies, and delivering projects on time to budget;

- Organizes time effectively, determining the right resources needed to effectively perform job assignments;

- Proficient working with and installing software on to various hardware platforms;

- Strong and professional attitude to working with third party suppliers

- Will require MOD SC and NPPV clearance for this role

We would be interested in people with any background in working within Criminal Justice and Public Safety market e.g. Police, Fire, Ambulance, Home Office etc

And particularly experience in the following types of solutions:

- Any Crime, Custody, case management technology/solutions

- Any Intelligence solutions;

- Any Command and Control solutions;

- Any Mapping technology/solutions
