Transforming Defence Equipment & Support

We are responsible for an inventory in excess of £30 billion and work closely with industry to provide equipment and services for military operations. With a £1.2 billion annual operating expenditure and responsibility to deliver around £13 billion of new equipment, in-service and logistics support each year on behalf of the Armed Forces, we are continually striving for excellence. As a result we are changing the way that we work and are implementing a new operating model that will include a balanced-matrix organizational structure of functional managers and delivery managers enabling us to respond flexibly, effectively and efficiently to all of our customer requirements and priorities.

The scale, complexity and impact that we have make us a unique organization to work for. We are seen as one of the major building blocks of defence providing crucial logistics and support to the Armed Forces, both in the UK and on operations throughout the world, delivering some of the world’s most complex projects. The work we do has a global impact.

We are looking for a number of Functional Managers who will be responsible for the ‘who’ and the ‘how’ in Project Management, leading people and owning processes across the organization and ensuring appropriate resources are available and effective. Combined with long-term skills and staff development, we aspire to have a fully-trained and capable workforce, with a professional delivery culture that attains best in class.

To be successful you will hold a professional qualification in Project Management and bring experience in leading complex, technically-based organizations to deliver operational performance and long-term strategy. With success in managing people through substantial change you will be able to demonstrate resilience, self-awareness and the ability to motivate and inspire people. Your track record of delivering major complex projects, and operating within a comparably large scale and highly complex environment, will enable you to build credibility with a range of senior stakeholders, which will be needed to effectively communicate strategic developments across the Project Management Function. In return you will have the opportunity to contribute to one of the largest, most complex acquisition and service-provision organizations in the world, drive improved performance and make a real difference to front-line Armed Forces across the globe.
