About the role

The Major Projects Authority has a very clear role. With an express mandate from the Prime Minister, we’re responsible for delivering the government’s largest and most challenging work on time and budget. As our Director of Operations, you’ll be absolutely intrinsic to the success of the whole Authority.

Supporting the Chief Executive, you’ll work across a broad and diverse portfolio. We’ll look to you to provide strategic and independent oversight, assurance and support. You will also lead our operations team and, from time to time, intervene directly in the most complex and important projects.

About you

This is a high level challenge for an extremely accomplished leader. Someone who has successfully delivered large-scale, complex projects. With a proven record at the most senior level, you’ll have the credibility and gravitas to build mutually beneficial relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Crucially, you’ll also be flexible in your approach. This role will require you to shift focus between taking a wider portfolio-level strategic perspective and analysing complex problems in detail.

This is a Fixed Term appointment-2years

About us

Part of the Cabinet Office, the Major Projects Authority (MPA) works with HM Treasury and other government departments to provide independent assurance on major projects. This portfolio covers around 200 projects with a total life cost approaching £500 billion.
