The Role:

As a qualified PRINCE2 Project Manager you’ll have substantial experienced with managing large-scale, complex, multi-year projects and working in consortia with a range of academic and commercial partners. With a proven track record in reporting on grant-based research projects, for example to the EU, World Bank and DfID, you won’t be phased by leading the execution of our commitments on the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

You’ll relish a good spreadsheet and juggling people’s priorities in response to last-minute changes. A superb eye for detail, financial reporting will be second nature to you. You’ll love working with, and supporting, more junior project managers, including creating guides and processes that help everyone work better. You will be comfortable reusing the work that you and others have already done, iterating and improving it so that next time everything runs even more smoothly. You’ll know how to get the best out of a mix of people: how to provide detailed instruction to those that need it and free rein (with a touch of quality control) to those that don’t. You’ll pride yourself on delivering projects within the resources that have been assigned to them and won’t be scared of saying no and reducing scope when that’s necessary.

What the Project Manager does...

Responsible for defining and communicating project objectives that are clear, useful and attainable you will managing the people, resources and scope of 6+ project plans for large-scale projects.

Produce 6 sets of executive-level and board reports on the projects you’re managing

Deliver to agreed metrics for budget over/underspend and time on projects contributions to 12+ project bids

Review and develop PM systems to define and implement efficient working methods across ODI

Deliver specific large-scale projects as the primary project manager:

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to define requirements and priorities

Manage multiple projects simultaneously while keeping track of priorities and partner or customer demands

Create and implement delivery plans

Manage, track and report on project budgets and time allocation

Prepare and deliver retrospectives on projects delivered

Report on project progress to Executive and Board-level stakeholders

Liaise with other organisations and contractors to manage outsourced work, and manage their timescales and budgets

Help to create bids and proposals for new projects with consortia of academic and commercial partners.

Support project delivery across ODI:

Analyse resources available for project delivery, at proposal stage

Review and summarise all project contracts

Shape working arrangements with delivery teams across the ODI

Adopt a data-driven approach in budgeting and project management

Develop and improve project tracking systems and reporting

Share your knowledge and experience with the team

Fulfil requirements from funders and the finance team:

Ensure complete and accurate records are maintained at all times

Forecast project delivery finances and feed into finance department

Prepare month end reports for finance around revenue recognition

Prepare all reports for submission to external stakeholders e.g. Form C

Fixed term contract until 31st December 2016
