GCHQ is the government’s appointed expert in cyber security. Every hour of every day, we’re working to protect the UK. It's about keeping our society safe, secure and successful. From terrorists to hackers, fraudsters, and organised criminal gangs, the online threats we encounter are many, varied and increasingly sophisticated. So, we've always got to be one step ahead.

Here at our newest site in Greater Manchester, we’re looking for talented, motivated and experienced software specialists - people who like to solve the unsolvable, and develop unbreakable systems. Whether you’ve mastered C++ Java, or another language, we’ll put your valuable skills to work, helping to safeguard the entire UK from cyber threats.

In this unique environment you’ll use technologies you won’t find anywhere else. And due to the nature of what we do, you’ll maintain a healthy work-life balance because, at the end of the day, you simply can’t take your work home. We also offer flexible working hours wherever possible and a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid parental leave, amongst other advantages.

Joining an agile team, you’ll contribute to the fast-paced development of high quality code. Primarily, we use Java, J2EE, C++, C, C#,.net or Perl as well as cloud and distributed programming technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL. Your particular focus will be on developing specialist high integrity systems that are robust enough to have a lifetime measured in years, rather than months.

Ideally, you’ll have a degree in either computer science, software engineering or software development, or equivalent experience and you will be comfortable learning new skills and keeping yourself up to date.

To apply you must be a British citizen. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our work and welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
