Growing up I loved stats, now I’m bringing them to life

As a Statistical Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of developing government policy. Your statistical skills will guide policy and government Ministers to solve real-world problems - whether that’s how to reform the tax system or alleviate child poverty. You will also be involved in creating government publications, such contributing to HMRC’s official releases and National and Official Statistics.

About you

We want the Civil Service to be as diverse as the society it serves, which means there’s no such thing as a typical civil servant. In fact, the things that make you unique are exactly what we’re looking for.

We do, however, have some academic criteria - like a 2:2 degree or postgraduate qualification in a statistics-based subject. This could be Mathematics, Economics, a Science, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, a graduate diploma from the Royal Statistical Society, or an equivalent qualification. We also accept professional experience in place of a degree, so long as you have five years’ in a statistics-related field and can demonstrate knowledge at HND (Level 5) or above.

About us

At HMRC, we make sure that money is available to fund the UK's public services. To do it, we’re expanding our research and analysis capabilities, which is where our Statistical Officers come in.

As part of the team, you’ll learn all about the latest research methods and techniques. And on top of that, you can look forward to an excellent starting salary, the support of a dedicated mentor and unrivalled career development.
