Job Description

The UK's National Physical Laboratory (NPL) sits at the intersection between scientific discovery and real world application. One of the top three National Measurement Institutes (NMIs) in the world, we now have a regional presence and strategic relationships with Surrey and Strathclyde Universities. Our expertise and original research have benefited UK citizens and the UK economy for over a century.

About NPL

At NPL we recognise that our success comes from attracting energetic and imaginative people, a reflection of our own values. The self-cultivated atmosphere of support and collaboration is one we are justifiably proud of and at every level, in every area of our business we seek to nurture and respect our people to support each other to grow, succeed and enjoy work. Join us and you'll soon see how thought leadership and imagination inspire all of us to greater things. It's about challenging complexity and bringing clarity and building relationships that make a difference. We are bold and visionary; we believe that anything is possible at NPL.

NPL is embarking on a period of change and growth. As part of this, our business systems footprint will be reviewed to identify improvements and efficiencies. This is an exciting role for someone who likes a challenge. We are looking for an experienced Business Systems Manager, with a background in business analysis and process design.

Experience

You will have hands on experience of working with business applications - specifically with Oracle Financials - and will be responsible for reviewing, developing and re-engineering end to end processes across the business, reducing information and systems silos. A core part of the role will be to review processes that are currently not adequately supported by our existing systems configurations to understand how they can be systemised and supported to provide a consistent set of applications that share data and information, regardless of underlying technology stack. Ideally, you will have worked in a consultancy environment where you have been exposed to a variety of different working environments and are able to apply your knowledge and understanding of standard processes and systems in creative ways to support NPL’s unique environment.

You will be responsible for leading and developing the functional and technical staff in your team who support, maintain and enhance the current installation business applications - primarily Oracle EBS and Qlikview. You will be able to provide tangible examples of process improvements you have successfully delivered in your previous roles and will be able to bring your experience of managing change to help NPL on this exciting programme.

In delivering new projects, you will be familiar with traditional and agile project management methodologies, capable of using the right methodology for the type and size of project.

You will have an understanding of ITSM processes (eg Incident, Problem and Change Management) and be able to contribute to continual improvement of IT service delivery to NPL.

Your career to date will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

-Deep experience of business analysis and business process re-engineering

-Functional and end to end process understanding of Oracle Financials - ideally some experience of Oracle Project Accounting (Costing, Billing and Management)

-Experience of Management Information / BI systems implementations

-Excellent communication (written and verbal) and facilitation skills

-Promotion and contribution to sharing of knowledge across the team to facilitate upskilling of less experienced staff

-Knowledge and ability to apply agile and traditional project management methodologies to the change process - using the right approach in the right context

-Ability to prioritise own and team workload to deliver business support and service levels in conjunction with implementing change.

-Willingness to work outside standard business hours, where necessary, to achieve required outcomes.

Benefits include:-

Option to work a 9 day fortnight

27 days holiday plus bank holidays

Onsite creche

Sports and Social Club

Bike to Work Scheme

Based in a unique, purpose-built research environment, we are located in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park, south-west London with a host of onsite facilities. These include a subsidised crèche, restaurant, free parking and our own sports and social club.
