Role overview

The Senior infrastructure engineer will work with a small and highly skilled team that manage the day to day operations of several hundred Linux servers. The role requires a high level of Linux administration skill and experience to address day to day operational requirements as well as longer term project work.

As a senior member of the team with you will be supporting infrastructure for business critical systems, typical areas of focus are managing our Linux based backup systems, critical Linux infrastructure such as DNS, sftp services, load balancers, monitoring servers, automated build and configuration infrastructure.

Many of our services are built around common open source product and to help with the day to day a level of shell scripting and perl scripting is beneficial.

Areas of specific responsibility

- Day to day management and administration of Linux back up systems

- Managing and maintaining infrastructure services such as DNS, SFTP

- Adminsitration of HP server and storage hardware. HPDL servers, BL Blades and 3PAR SAN.

- Firewall and Router configuration/Adminstration

- Identify and lead improvements or additions to the First utility infrastructure.

- Manage expectations so that priorities and timescales are understood.

- Ensure systems availability and performance meets the required KPI’s in which the whole department is judged

- Ongoing project work in support of above.

The desirable candidate will have

- Demonstratable experience of Linux Administration with open source software

- Puppet Configuration Management for Linux servers

- Experience with Centos/Redhat, RHC(E) qualifications would be viewed favourably

- Experience of installation and troubleshoot of open source products

- Knowledge of Ubuntu as a desktop

- Ability to Configure Networks predominantly Juniper with knowledge of cisco networks

- Exposure to windows server administration

- Ability to communicate clearlly and effectively at all levels

Core Hours

You will be part of a team covering 0800hrs - 1800hrs, Monday - Friday, plus being part of a 24 x 7 on-call rota. There is also some Saturday working from time to time based on business requirements.
