The Data Scientist role

Making sense of the numbers will be your overriding objective in this brand new role. You’ll analyse and decipher large data sets to inform and guide key business decisions - be that on crucial marketing campaigns or improvements to our website. Helping develop the data science strategy for the business, you’ll build complex reporting, utilising your strong data visualisation skills.

We want you to explore every customer touchpoint, from what they buy to when and where they buy it. Armed with this information, you’ll be able to report back and make recommendations to the business as you help us tap into this massively underused resource. Coordinating, preparing and performing predictive analytics and modelling you’ll help improve the business results. We’ll also look to you to interpret and provide solutions to business problems using data analysis, data mining, optimisation tools and machine learning techniques.

The skills you’ll need as a Data Scientist

You’re excited by numbers. With an inquisitive mind you are commercially savvy and seek out the opportunities our business needs to deliver and grow. Problem solving is second nature to you and you’ll be comfortable working on your own initiative or in collaboration with others. A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Mining, Machine Learning or related field is a must have as is extensive experience using statistical analysis environments such as R, SPSS, SAS. You’ll also have strong analytics and problem-solving capabilities, including advanced skills in statistical analysis. You’ll pride yourself on your ability to communicate at all levels and you’ll excel when it comes to converting complex reports into an easy to understand business language. Bring all of this together with experience in data visualisation techniques using Tableau (or other visualisation packages) and you’ll be the perfect package.
