About the role

Over recent years, we’ve made £multi-million investments to transform our IT operation beyond recognition. That’s no small task when you consider the incredible breadth of what we do. We’ve delivered powerful infrastructural changes including cloud-based data warehousing, a 1600 EPOS solution, a brand new management information reporting suite and a responsive website (visited by over 2 million people a month). And these are just some of the activities that now need to be built on with the next phase of our ambitious technology roadmap. The largest investment in IT to date, this journey of transformation will deliver phenomenal benefits and dramatically enhance how we connect people with our cause. Join us as Head of Operational Support and help us lay the foundations for an operational support structure that delivers these exciting changes.

Making sure our IT systems are as efficient and effective as possible is crucial to the future of the National Trust. From keeping our property portfolio, land and coastline well-connected, to making sure all our people have the best infrastructure at their fingertips, having a smooth-running IT operation has never been more important. As Head of IT Operational Support, you’ll instil IT excellence across our organisation. Define what processes aren’t working efficiently. Investigate how we could improve our approach to IT support in our special spaces and places across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Heading up one of our largest IT teams, you’ll set the direction as you put in place structure and procedures that guarantee a smooth IT delivery service. We’ll look to you to manage, maintain and monitor our IT systems, and lead the team to deliver excellent operational support that will facilitate our IT transformation. Providing stability and control across the Trust’s IT platform, enterprise systems and applications - it’s a big job and a huge opportunity for you to really make an impact as you enable us to successfully support the changing IT needs of our well-known and much-loved brand.

About you

Coming from an IT operations background in a small or large operation, you’ll have what it takes to design an IT operational support vision and deliver a robust, stable IT enterprise. Along with your extensive knowledge of ITIL, IT support services and IT tools and techniques, what we’re really looking for is someone with the drive and ambition to take their career to the next level - as well as our IT infrastructure. You’ll also need:

- The ability to manage complex environments with multiple parties providing support services.

- Excellent management and leaderships skills that you’ll use to coordinate and inspire your team to deliver the best results.

- Outstanding people skills and excellent customer service skills that you’ll use to develop and maintain strong relationships across the Trust.

- An organised approach that you’ll use to prioritise workload for the team and build plans.

- Experience of driving change and innovation, and leading a team to implement and maintain systems effectively and efficiently.
