Champion statistical excellence across our organisation, as a key member of a new specialist analytics team that will help to drive the way medical practice is regulated in the UK.

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

When it comes to establishing and assessing regulatory requirements for doctors, we collate and evaluate a range of data. This is crucial to modelling risk. Following the success of initial work in this field, we are establishing a new central analytics team. At this exciting time of change and evolution, you will help to shape the work and its impact.

As Chief Statistician, you will be a recognised expert providing statistical guidance, analysis and quality assurance across the GMC. As head of profession for all GMC staff engaged in statistical analysis, you’ll create a successful future and an enduring professional legacy. Overseeing a wide range of statistical analysis techniques, you will ensure they are applied in the right time and place. We will look to you raise awareness of good practice in the analysis and interpretation of quantitative data, and to assure the quality of numerical analysis outputs in various publications.

Together with a relevant qualification at Master’s level, you have proven professional experience of using your excellent statistical skills. This includes extracting - and quickly communicating - clear stories from complex and unstructured data sets. You have a demonstrable flair for acquiring sound understanding of complex business issues and processes, to ensure analysis is accessible and relevant. Both face to face and in writing, you are highly skilled at communicating clear and accessible information, drawn from robust analysis.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
