This is a wide-ranging and fundamental role, with scope to make a big impact on a new specialist analytics team that will help to drive the way medical practice is regulated in the UK.

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

When it comes to establishing and assessing regulatory requirements for doctors, we collate and evaluate a range of data. This is crucial to modelling risk. Following the success of initial work in this field, we are establishing a new central analytics team. At this exciting time of change and evolution, you will help to shape the team, its work and its impact.

We will look to you to update, develop and exploit the GMC’s intelligence risk model with new data. This will include re-running predicted risk profiles and interpreting them to senior leaders. Working closely with a range of GMC staff, you will seek to understand their requirements for data modelling and contribute ideas to their work. Your impact will range from supporting the Patient Safety Intelligence Forum with insights into developing areas of risk, through to informing the priorities of the GMC’s external inspection and liaison activities. Along the way, you’ll source, review, clean, summarise and store a variety of internal and external datasets for use in modelling.

Your qualifications and experience include building predictive data models using R and dashboard reports in Tableau, and designing relational databases and extracting data from them using SQL. An excellent communicator and relationship builder, you have a flair for critically evaluating, clarifying and negotiating requests for analysis from colleagues. Crucially, you have a strong talent for presenting analysis methods and results from data modelling clearly.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
