Introduction:

With one of the most successful ecolabels in use today, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has established itself on the world stage, and in little more than 10 years has achieved a truly global presence, affecting positive, ecological change in oceans and providing certified sustainable seafood in more than 80 countries, across all five continents.

Employing more than 150 staff across 15 offices around the world, the MSC is seeking an Office Services Administrator. The role that sits within the Corporate Services Directorate and aims to support the office service function but will also be required to support reception.

The MSC has created a new Data and Technology Officer role working in the Science and Standards Department to provide 1st line support and data services to staff and external partners.

Your key role will be:

To administer and support departmental IT systems such as SharePoint, SQL, Access bespoke databases and other tools.

Responsible for ensuring key databases are kept up to date by transposing data held in documents into a structured format.

Expected to become very familiar with the data (which is about fish stocks, fishery management practices and fishery supply chains - an interest in marine sciences, ocean health or fish stock data a definite advantage!) such that you can ensure data quality and be able to provide answers to various queries regarding the data.

You will be working in a highly dynamic environment reporting to the Senior Standards Database Officer as part of the Strategic Research Team and also working closely with the wider IT/Digital team. Able to deal with highly specialised staff and juggle competing work priorities, you will be exposed to a broad range of systems and fisheries data. You will work to IT helpdesk processes for support and will also be additionally involved in project work.

At the early stages of their career.

Ideally have already worked in at least one other organisation in a technical capacity

With experience in 1st line Helpdesk support, system administration (Sharepoint and/or SQL) and know your way around Access or have any form of scripting experience.

Highly computer literate you have an interest in both information and systems management

Willing to learn about MSC systems and fisheries data. MSC is prepared to provide on the job training for the right candidate.

The MSC is a small organisation with a big mission; we set the standard for sustainable fishing and products made from sources certified as sustainable carry our ecolabel which can be found on over 18,000 products in 35 countries. The MSC has staff in over 20 locations worldwide and this new role has been created to help the Science and Standards department provide better support for existing services and provide the bandwidth to development new services. The role is initially for one year after which the position will be reviewed.
