Our client are a leading service company providing specialised engineering solutions and products to the commercial diving industry, ROV and underwater engineering industry.

Due to internal expansion to their engineering team, our client has a new requirement for a Software / Firmware Engineer to join an expert and dedicated team of engineers and technicians working in the Oil and Gas service sector on state of the art underwater systems for the commercial diving and ROV sector.

Our clients product range include control system, communications and instrumentation equipment for the commercial diving sector and electro-hydraulic control systems and navigation equipment for the ROV market. Our client use state of the art technologies to provide unique products and systems for this industry sector.

The successful applicant will be a dedicated team player capable of applying his/her skills in software and firmware development and product life cycle maintenance within an engineering design and production environment.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:

-Development of embedded firmware for a range of existing and new state of the art products (C, VHDL, Code Composer, MPLAB).

-Maintaining (upgrades and improvements) existing product firmware.

-Developing test software applications to assist in manufacture and test of products.

-Designing and implementing PLC software applications for Siemens S7-300 platform in SCL and LL (under Step7) - with a focus on advanced networking techniques.

-Development of PC control system applications in PowerBASIC and C# (complex user interface applications).

-Maintenance of existing PC software applications (upgrades and improvements).

-Working with project engineers and technicians to implement complete system functionality.

- The role will be predominantly based at their HQ, but will also include occasional site work on Clients’ work-sites and diving vessels whilst alongside in port.

- A suitable software / computer science qualification to degree or equivalent as a minimum;

- At least 5 years relevant experience in an industrial software and firmware design environment;

- Extensive experience in firmware development, test and debug;

- Extensive experience with high level development languages - preferably one or more of PowerBASIC, VB, C# and C++;

- Good software development knowledge including version control and Agile development techniques;

It would be advantageous if the applicant has:

- Experience with FPGA & DSP technologies;

- UK Driving Licence.

- Experience with underwater, military or aerospace equipment;

- Experience with real-time control systems;
