This is an exciting new technical opportunity within a fantastic organisation. The role is for a Microsoft Cloud Services Systems Administrator for the National Trust. This role will work within the Technology and Information Security Team to design, deliver and support Microsoft Cloud Services required by the National Trust as a part of delivering upon its’ technology roadmap. The person we are looking for is someone with enough technical knowledge and experience but most importantly a desire to develop and learn across a breadth of Microsoft Cloud technology areas. This includes Microsoft Azure AD and EMS, managing the Azure portal and deploying environments, Office 365, in particular creating and administering SharePoint Team Sites.

We provide the best possible working environment for you throughout the building whilst also promoting and fostering a sociable Heelis Community. Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career.

Heelis is the Central Office for the National Trust; it was named after one of the Trust’s biggest benefactors Mrs William Heelis, There are approximately 500 staff from across the Trust’s directorates, including the Executive team and the Director General, are based here.

Heelis was designed to be highly sustainable and has won a number of nationally recognised awards. Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects in 2005, this architectural gem uses timber from our woodlands and wool from Herdwick sheep grazed on Trust farmlands, to help make Heelis a unique working environment.

About the role

The successful applicant will join the National Trust at a time of immense change: the Trust is half way through delivering a £40m technology-enabled transformation programme. This and other investment is changing our technical infrastructure beyond recognition. Best in class cloud-based data warehousing, a new responsive website and apps, a 1600 position EPOS solution, a new finance system and new MI reporting suite are just the start. The IT department budget is circa £20m per annum plus a sizable and ambitious project portfolio. The usual issues that plague IT departments are less prevalent within the National Trust: the department is aligned with our business, its team members liked and respected at all levels of the organisation; the senior executive sponsorship and support for IT investment is strong; much of our outdated infrastructure has investment plans or in the process of being upgraded.

Whilst the National Trust’s roots in history are deep and we have a lasting set of values, the pace of technology change has been and will continue to be high. We have lacked sufficient strategic architectural planning and solution design. We need a credible technology leader, with broad knowledge and experience, who can deliver clear long-term planning whilst also managing day to day delivery of technical solutions. The National Trust is a great place to work, its purpose is to look after special places, forever, for everyone; this is a fantastic opportunity for a technologist to become part of something bigger and to get involved in working within such an important organisation.
