We are presently looking for a PRODUCT DEFINITION SPECIALIST to join our team in Bristol.

This role is a great opportunity for someone wanting to develop technically and provide input into the Marketing direction of our products. You will work with our Market and Product Development teams developing the detailed definition of our highly differentiated products in support of Semtech's Optical product roadmap. To be successful in this role you will need great communications skills that help you draw together teams and get underneath the market requirements, the technical specifications to produce superior features and performance within our products and get close to our customers.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will need to have technical experience in all or some of the following - Design, implementation and productionization of high speed optical communication systems, electronics and components. We know this is a big ask, so if you have specialism in one area detailed and awareness and enthusiasm for the other areas we want to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with Marketing & Product Development teams towards the detailed definition of highly differentiated new products in support of the Semtech’s optical product roadmap.

Ensure new products are defined with superior features and performance relative to market competition.

Work with leadership team to plan the future technology and strategic product direction for the division.

Ensure new products are compatible with appropriate standards and customers target systems.

Support the various teams in IC Design, Optical Sub Assembly (OSA) Design and Applications Engineering with systems level expertise.

Responsible for standards reference and specification conflict resolution.

Build and maintain relationships with customers by visiting them and attending standard organisation meetings.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

BSc/ BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Microwave or RF Engineering or Physics.

Member of one or more of the recognized Electrical & Electronic Institutions (i.e. IET, IEEE).

It is envisaged you will need at least 3 years’ plus experience in the Semiconductor & Telecommunications sectors.

Semiconductor/electronics expertise and experience

Strong motivation to drive new products and technology in a highly competitive environment

Experience managing meetings directly with customers and negotiating specifications

Knowledge and experience of making electrical measurements in a development lab environment.

An ability to work well in a team environment.

You will need to be personable and approachable.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. An ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable way.

A proven ability to build commitment and trust across all levels in a product development organization.

Experience with IC Design of high speed optical components and/or optical communications systems is an asset

Additional information:

International travel at least 3 - 5 times per year

Undertake such other comparable duties as may be required by the Signal Integrity Product Group
