As a Software Engineer at MI5, you can directly support real time investigations - while working with some of the most advanced technology around. It’s an opportunity to develop your Java, C#, .NET or Oracle expertise further and play your part in keeping the country safe from threats like espionage and terrorism.

Your role

Joining our Information Technology group, you’ll be involved in the most advanced and exciting area of our software development. It’s a fast-paced setting where we follow an iterative, agile development approach. You’ll be building, maintaining and enhancing a range of in-house software applications used by our analysts and intelligence officers. In short, you’ll play a major role in managing the technology that keeps investigations going, including dealing with intercepts and bulk data.

Contributing to a variety of projects, you will work on next generation digital intelligence processing platforms, integrating the latest big data technologies and open source products. You’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your skills and knowledge in areas such as big data.

About you

With experience of taking ownership of major developments, as well as coding, testing and documentation, you’ll need strong analytical and interpersonal skills. You’ll be a good team player with a knack for working under pressure and a record of delivering projects to time, cost and quality to meet customers’ expectations. You’ll also be familiar with best practices such as TDD, Agile and Scrum, ideally with knowledge of the Atlassian tool suite, Crucible, JIRA and Confluence.
