Help create a world-class learning environment at Southampton Solent University

Bold, innovative and vibrant, we‘re undergoing an ambitious five-year transformation. We’re building on our strengths to become the applied university of choice for students and staff. We’re developing in a physical sense too. We’ve just opened a £30m, centrepiece campus building, and we have a further £25m development on the way. There’s a lot going on. And it all presents you with the opportunity to make a significant impact.

About the role

A key member of our busy projects team, you’ll help deliver a huge range of capital projects across our academic, office, residential, sports and social spaces. These projects typically range from £250k upwards, and will see you:

- Taking the lead for client-side project management and coordination

- Working with stakeholders and consultants to develop briefs, programmes and budgets

- Defining, challenging and testing project feasibilities - keeping the team thinking outside the box

- Refining the scope and cost-plan to secure the budget and maintaining budgetary control

- Getting delivery underway. Securing the team and setting up appropriate levels of governance

- Finding creative solutions to the problems and issues that will inevitably arise - we’re looking for someone who takes ownership and resolves problems

- Managing the pace of delivery to hit the timescales whilst bringing the organisation and key stakeholders with you

- Keeping focused on the bigger picture so that the projects are delivered and the benefits realised

You’ll turn your skills to everything from new builds and refurbs. And whatever the project, you’ll stay focused on delivery, cost efficiency and quality.

About you

Ideally as a Chartered Surveyor with a commercial background (Chartered Quantity Surveyor) and an experienced construction project manager with strong leadership skills, you’ll thrive in this role. You’ve worked on a variety of construction projects before, and you’re up to date with project management best practice. You also have a broad knowledge of risk management, contract procurement, and construction health and safety requirements. You’ll be a strategic thinker, but with a keen eye for detail. What’s more, you’re an effective communicator with the ability to work in teams and manage multiple stakeholder relationships.

We’re investing in and developing our people as part of our ambitious plan - and empowering colleagues to confidently deliver the very best education to our students. Join us, and we’ll develop your talents to enable you to contribute to building an excellent university and to fulfil your own potential.
