Role overview:

The role will require a confident, self assured and motivated individual to work as part of a dynamic team in an exciting and fast paced environment. The Test Team here at First Utility is expanding to meet business growth. Regulatory changes mean adapting our existing systems, which require full testing.

The test team embed themselves within the delivery teams to ensure that internal and external development meets the requirements of the business. Working within Agile delivery teams you’ll be responsible for everything testing related on a given project, from assisting the developers with technical tasks through to liaising with business areas for User Acceptance Testing.

As a true testing advocate you’ll use recognised testing methodology to deliver activities required within the team.

Areas of specific responsibility:

Review technical requirements/specifications and User Story acceptance criteria.

Writing test plans in accordance with acceptance criteria.

Providing walkthroughs of test plans with business areas to agree test coverage.

Executing test plans in a timely manner.

Defect management activities throughout the testing lifecycle.

Working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Maintaining a regression and smoke test pack.

Running manual and automated tests (where applicable).

Testing in different environments.

Communicating findings to technical and non-technical colleagues.

Attending daily stand-ups, Test Planning meetings and retrospective sessions.

Working positively and communicating professionally across the team in order to make an effective contribution to team tasks and team spirit.

The desirable candidate will have the following technical skills:

Basic SQL skills/knowledge.

Understanding of systems and architecture (DB's, Servers, Networks etc.).

Knowledge of XML/HTML or similar markup languages.

Working knowledge of JIRA Agile (Greenhopper).

Knowledge of Scrum techniques.

A working knowledge of testing using Kanban boards.

Liaison with 3rd Parties for defect resolution

Understanding the Agile grooming process to assist in Test Planning.

A working knowledge of Google Drive.

Strong desire to perform exploratory testing

Good general IT knowledge.

Experience Required:

Previous experience in a professional testing role.

ISEB/ISTQB certification in Software Testing at Foundation level.

Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Testing in both waterfall and agile environments making use of continuous integration.

Utilities testing background (desirable)
