To open the door to the past, we need to look at the future: Archives Inspire

The Domesday Book. War time records. Tweets from Downing Street. Government websites. Public Inquiries. These are just some of the 11 million items held by The National Archives. This amazing collection - the largest in the world - documents over 1,000 years of history in all kinds of formats and, as the archive continues to grow, we want the wider world to get the most from our records. The next four years will see exciting plans launched that cover digital, and as a Senior Project Manager, you’ll make them happen - and enjoy generous rewards and benefits.

About the role

Joining our Digital Team, you’ll lead complex strategic projects with an emphasis on technology. These could be in IT or Public Engagement (both online and onsite). Whichever area you’re working on, you’ll be responsible for project scope and direction, as well as the leadership of a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team. Together, you’ll deliver a first-class solution to agreed deadlines and standards. With procurement, budgets and stakeholders all part of your remit, you must apply sound project management techniques and manage expectations.

About you

If you’re adept at handling complex, large-scale projects, this could be the challenge you’re looking for. You’ll use your extensive experience of applying recognised project management methodology to deliver IT-focused projects. Prince2 and Agile accreditation would be ideal but practical knowledge is better. You’ll be directing projects, inspiring teams and resolving problems. That takes drive, leadership, effective stakeholder management, sound team engagement, business partnering and clear communication. If you can build relationships within and outside National Archives, and manage budgets of over £200,000, we’d like to hear from you.

Join us here in beautiful Kew, just 10 minutes’ walk from the Overground and Underground stations, and help create a modern national digital archive that makes our history even more accessible. In return, you’ll receive a great Civil Service benefits package that includes pension, childcare vouchers, access to sports facilities and opportunities for training and development.
