SFW has operational responsibility for key workflow applications and is seeking a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to assist with the design and build of infrastructure/development/support environments and to provide on-going production support.
These activities will be part time and the ISE will be actively involved with the design, build and support of Linux, VMWare and other environments for SFW clients and also providing support for internal Linux based systems.
As an experienced Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer you will:
Provide 2nd and 3rd line infrastructure support against agreed service levels including the implementation of fixes and documentation etc.
Carry out design, build, configuration, deployment and documentation of infrastructure environments for both production, DR, support and development for external clients and internal projects
Keep abreast of developments and vulnerabilities etc. in Linux, VMWare and associated systems/applications/infrastructure i.e. raising awareness of critical patches, technology developments and upgrades etc.
Play an active role in the Infrastructure team and contribute to the overall development of IT within the organisation
Engage with SFW clients to define requirements for infrastructure solutions and projects
Candidates must have held UK residency for at least four years to be eligible for security clearance.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Redhat & CentOS Linux - Design, Implementation, Troubleshooting, Administration including load balancing, clustering, IP tables, certificate management and security hardening, must be able to work at the CLI level and without the GUI. Advanced troubleshooting on mid to large scale environments, experience must be practical/commercial. (3 years minimum)
VMWare ESX - experience with Design, Implementation, Configuration and Troubleshooting. Experience using VMotion, DRS & DPM and also VCenter (Beneficial). Minimum experience - creating & troubleshooting virtual servers (including networking) and using VMotion (further training can be provided). (2 years’ practical experience minimum)
Network design principles and implementation - solid understanding of network principals i.e. VLAN's, protocols, network components, experiencing configuring Switches, firewalls and VLAN's. (2 years’ practical experience minimum)
Experience of monitoring systems, ideally Nagios - Working with alerts, basic troubleshooting, setting up new systems with monitoring agents. (1-year practical experience minimum)
Experience of implementing, monitoring and troubleshooting backup solutions, ideally Veeam or Symantec Backup Exec. (1-year practical experience minimum)
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Nginx (1-year minimum)
SQL Server/MySQL/Post Gres/Maria DB implementation and administration
Oracle implementation/Support
Windows Server Operating Systems (i.e. 2008/2012)
Active Directory (basic understanding)
Server hardware configuration (HP preferred), installing, configuring and troubleshooting.
SAN administration and configuration (HP preferred) - Deploying, configuring, troubleshooting etc.
DevOps tools: Puppet, CHEF, Docker, Vagrant, Ancible (6-12 months)
