Job description:

We’re a close-knit, hard-working team based on the 20th floor of our amazing offices in Croydon’s most iconic building, ‘No1 Croydon’ (Train line 45 minutes from Brighton, 9 minutes from Clapham Junction & 16 minutes from London Victoria!).

We’re a team of around 35 who build our main product - Dotmailer - as well as some fantastic integrations with Salesforce, MS Dynamics, and Magento. We’re a mix of devs, DBAs, designers, and PMs.

We’re split between our Croydon and Minsk offices, with a sprinkle of remote workers in several far-flung locations. We’re a software company, not an IT department, and we have a real passion for our products and tech. Building our systems mostly with the Microsoft tech stack, we’ve got a successful but complex product, deployed across 100s of cloud-hosted servers.

What we need:

We don’t have a formal QA team at the moment. We’re all responsible for writing our own unit and integration tests. Everyone pitches in with some hand testing too, and the PM team are great at UAT. But QA as a process and discipline is something we don’t quite have, and we want to add to the mix. How can we ship less defects? How can we identify issues earlier in the dev cycle? How can we learn lessons when problems does occur? And can we - you? - build any new test suites to help?

About You:

You’ve got good experience working in an agile software development environment, ideally with a QA focus. You’re internet-savvy and understand the world of SaaS. You’re a top notch communicator who knows that communicating throughout the team and wider business, both in written and verbal form, is really important for this role. You think about software product details, and obsess about the customer experience too. You can focus on the macro as well as the micro - our hardest defects relate to scalability, or multiple system interactions. You most probably have a development background, though we’re open-minded if you think you can help us without one.

What you’ll be doing:

We’re looking for someone who enjoys and embraces autonomy - we’ll not be giving you a detailed shopping list of things to do. We want you to come and help improve our software delivery process. We think that’ll mean becoming an expert with our software, as well as embedding in, and working with, one or more of our software teams. But we’d love to hear your take on things.

We’re keen to hear your vision, but your responsibilities could include:

Participating in team sprint planning sessions

Working on automated and manual test plans to cover new features, and changes to old ones

Executing those test plans on a regular basis, and helping other people/teams use them

Writing bug reports

Maintaining existing test suites, and building new ones

Being the "build cop" - keeping on top of test run failures from any team

Owning our bug tracking database, ensuring that bugs are well written, and up to date.

Liaising with our 3rd line support team

Your skills and experience:

Software development experience is ideal; we currently work in C#, as well as Javascript/Typescript.

Experience of test case design

Experience of bug reporting processes and tools (we use Zendesk and TFS, but you might have used something else)

Comfortable with internet technologies (HTTP, SMTP, DNS, etc)

Attention to detail - nothing gets past you.

Great communication skills, particularly written ones. A well written bug is worth its weight in gold.
