About The Role

The key focus of the 3rd Line Support Engineer is to be a point of escalation to provide day-to-day operational support as part of the IT team, assisting 1st and 2nd-line analysts with support queries, incidents, and requests and working as part of the wider technical team in planned public-facing and internal projects and operations.

The 3rd Line engineer will report to the Head of IT Operations. This particular role will specialise in and focus on networks and security, and has the potential to progress further to more a specialised network and security management role.

Day To Day Responsibilities

- Identify current and future infosec risks

- Assist in the infosec validation of new releases and features of the UNiDAYS platform

- Oversee patch management from a security perspective (in both production and operational environments)

- Validate infrastructure (AWS) network security (NACLS and security groups)

- Sit on the CAB as security specialist

- Document infosec procedures and processes

- Oversee access rights changes and auditing

- Assist with penetration and vulnerability testing

- Assist with the roadmap to cyber essentials accreditation and ISO27001

- Help to develop and manage effective monitoring for networks and security metrics

- Assisting with AAA security, threat detection, prevention and management

- Firewall and network device management

- Assisting with the setup of new offices and sites, specifically WAN links, IPsec tunnels, and MPLS

- Support the IT team with general operational support

- Take part in an on-call rota

Key Skills And Experience

- A specialist in networking, with exposure to large, distributed operational networks with high availability demands

- Comfortable working with critical systems, and with mature change management

- Experience of maintaining a posture of compliance

- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

- Demonstrable experience in information security, particularly with reference to firewall rule management, version control, and configuration management

- Exposure to validation of new software releases

- In-depth knowledge of networking, TCP/IP and the OSI model

- Understanding of routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF

- Enthusiasm for identifying weaknesses and vulnerabilities

- Knowledge of Cyber Essentials, ISO27001, PCI-DSS, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other security requirements

- Ability to carry out comprehensive security audits

- Knowledge of social engineering attacks and blue team/red team testing strategies

- Experience working in IT, network support and management, and/or infosec roles

- Experience in multi-site organisations, ideally in a globally distributed infrastructure

- ITIL foundation (desirable)

- CompTIA N+, Cisco certifications or similar (desirable)

- Graduate degree (ideally in computing, science, mathematics or related subjects)
