UCL Civil, Environmental & Geomatic engineering

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £42,304-£49,904 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applicants are invited for a Senior Software Developer position based at the UCL SpaceTiemLab for Big Data Analytics at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE). The successful applicant will develop a software application that integrates a range of tools for the analysis of crime and policing, which will be initially used by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) across all 32 boroughs in London, then by other police agencies nationally. S/he will work closely with the members of the SpaceTiemLab and MPS HQ Data Development Team. The post is to start as soon as possible and ending on 31 March 2017 in the first instance.

Applicants should have a Master’s qualification in computer science, mathematics, statistics, network science, GIScience, geography, crime science, or other closely related fields. Knowledge and experience of computer programming languages is important and essential, as is experience with managing software projects. The ideal applicant would be experienced in helping optimise software, especially with regard to parallelisation. They should have experience with designing and constructing GUIs (knowledge of web application development is particularly desirable), and managing large spatial database.
