A vacancy has arisen in the Field Epidemiology Service South East and London team as an Information Systems Specialist.

This position offers a talented professional the opportunity to apply their IT, database and customer management skills to an important area of public health. There is considerable travel, mainly within London and the South East to laboratories.

Through the application of specialist skills, you will undertake complex tasks with regards to database development and management, using modern tools and methodologies. The post holder will also support the improvement of data quality through regular liaison with the data providers.

We are looking for a person with good negotiation and diplomacy skills in addition to excellent technical ability. You will have extensive experience in the collation, analysis and reporting of data and experience using and querying local databases like Access as well as modern enterprise level databases such as SQL server and also SharePoint.

The role will involve supporting outbreaks and epidemiological investigations through the creation and administration of outbreak databases and through providing advice and expertise on data sources and capture.

The post holder will contribute to PHE’s surveillance work by supporting the implementation of new, and the improvement of existing, surveillance systems.

The post holder will support users through providing ongoing support and training and will also be required to contribute to a robust quality assurance programme.
