- Do you have a flair (and passion) for data?

- Can you turn complex data into usable information to drive business insight?

If this sounds like you, the Database Development Officer role at Asthma UK could be just what you’re looking for. This is a great opportunity to join us at an exciting point in the organisation’s evolution, putting data at the heart of what we do.

Come and make a difference!

Every 10 seconds someone in the UK has a potentially life-threatening asthma attack and three people die every day. Asthma UK works to stop asthma attacks and, ultimately, cure asthma. How? By funding world leading research and scientists, campaigning for better care and supporting the 1 in 11 people in the UK with asthma to reduce their risk of a potentially fatal asthma attack.

What the role involves:

- You’ll be the first line of support for Asthma UK’s database users

- You’ll take responsibility for day-to-day administration of Asthma UK’s supporter database (currently Raiser’s Edge)

- You’ll help to maintain the database to the highest standards, creating data imports/export structures, and providing the business with timely and useful data

- Working as part of the data and analytics team, you’ll help to streamline our data collection and work with the business to build a 360°view of our supporters

You will need to:

- Have in-depth all-round knowledge and experience of: maintaining a customer supporter relationship database, including coding structures; creating data import/export structures; running data selections and segmentations

- Be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL querying for data import/export and data manipulation

- Be able to collate, analyse, interpret and present data accurately in an appropriate format and in a timely manner

- Have great attention to detail and a passion for data excellence

- Be able to build strong relationships with colleagues across the charity, ensuring that the database is developed in line with their business requirements.

Working here appeals to people who:

- Are ambitious and want to work in a commercially minded environment

- Appreciate a clear vision and scale of ambition, but understand the flexibility required to develop plans to deliver this

- Understand the need for charities to harness the power of technology to transform outcomes for their supporters

- Are intellectually curious and value the opportunity to learn

- Want a role with breadth

- Are comfortable with change and a "test, learn, refine and scale" approach

- Enjoy knowledge-sharing and developing fully integrated plans with other teams

It doesn’t suit people who:

- Like operating in a functional team with little interaction from other colleagues

- Dislike change or are uncomfortable with re-invention

- Don’t like rolling up their sleeves

- Aren’t passionate about digital, data and technology

- Don’t enjoy debate or facilitation

Come and make a difference:

There is nothing as terrifying as the feeling of not being able to breathe or watching helplessly as a loved one struggles for breath. Although asthma affects 1 in 5 households in the UK it is, mistakenly, seen to be ‘sorted’. It’s not. In the UK today, every 10 seconds someone has a potentially fatal asthma attack. Every day the lives of three families are devastated by the death of a loved one to an asthma attack. Tragically, the majority of these could be prevented right now with the right basic care. Others still suffer with asthma so severe current treatments don’t work. This has to change. That’s why Asthma UK exists.

This is a great place to work:

With around 80 people, we are a tight team working together successfully to stop asthma attacks and cure asthma. Our recent staff survey reports that although we have a decidedly high performance culture, it’s probably the friendliest place most people have worked with great opportunities for development. So, if you have a talent for trust fundraising and a passion for writing, we’d love to hear from you.
