The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) distributes public money for higher education to universities and colleges in England, and ensures that this money is used to deliver the greatest benefit to students and the wider public.

We are seeking to recruit two Analysts, to be part of our growing Analytical Services Directorate (ASD). Our Analysts apply a range of data analytics techniques to large sets of data in order to inform decision-makers in HEFCE and wider government. The roles are focussed on the use of student data in the on-going development and implementation of:

- the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a high-profile government initiative which aims to recognise and reward excellent learning and teaching

- a new approach to assessing the quality of higher education

- the allocation of funding at universities and colleges.

The roles are also likely to include work on:

- supporting the management of a busy, high-performing team

- managing substantial and high-profile new or established work areas

- developing and maintaining processes that ensure the timely and accurate use of student data in our functions

- analysing and presenting data to inform policy, funding or the public

Each role features a variety of technology and responsibilities, so a willingness to learn is vital. ASD values knowledge sharing and development; we offer both external and internal training that covers SAS programming, IT, and interpersonal skills.

We are seeking candidates with the ability to gain insight from large sets of data, develop conclusions, present results clearly and concisely. You need qualifications with a significant numerical background, and experience in at least one programming language (scripting, OOP, statistical etc.).

Benefits include, 25 days annual leave with flexible working, subsidised sports and social activities and the opportunity to join the Civil Service Pension scheme.

For specific information on each role please download the job descriptions below. Applications must be made through www.careers.hefce.ac.uk (CVs will not be accepted) and include an ordered preference for the roles advertised.

Part time and job share working will be considered.

Council is working towards equal opportunities in employment.
