Job Description

The Office for Fair Access (OFFA) is the public body that helps to promote and safeguard fair access to higher education for people from disadvantaged backgrounds. We are seeking to appoint a Data Officer to help support our important work.

You will play a crucial role in collecting and collating data to support OFFA`s core processes - the approval and monitoring of access agreements. Publicly funded universities and colleges wishing to charge tuition fees of over £6,000 need approval from the Director of Fair Access to Higher Education to do so. Access agreements set out the measures universities and colleges will take to ensure that people from disadvantaged backgrounds are able to enter higher education and succeed in their studies.

You will help run annual data collection processes, maintaining and developing tools to assist OFFA`s policy team with assessing data collections from universities and colleges and producing published data tables. The data you gather will be used in OFFA`s reports and publications. Fair access to higher education is a high profile area of policy, with the government setting an ambitious goal to double the rates of students from disadvantaged backgrounds - so you can expect to see the impact of your work make headlines.

Working with OFFA`s Information Manager and analysts you will also review, reorganise and maintain existing information storage systems to ensure we have effective processes in place.

You will be able to confidently use IT analysis packages and applications to manage large amounts of data. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a confident and positive approach and be able to work effectively with others at all levels. Your verbal and written communications will be both clear and accurate.

OFFA is a small organisation, with around 25 members of staff, and you will need to work flexibly to contribute across the team, managing tight deadlines and changing priorities.

If you have these qualities and some experience, knowledge or interest in higher education we would very much like to hear from you.

Benefits include 25 days` annual leave (pro rata), a comprehensive staff development programme including membership of the Government Social Research Network, and the opportunity to join the Civil Service Pension scheme. OFFA is supported by HEFCE through a service level agreement and staff are covered by the same pay, conditions and human resourcing policies. You can see details of these on HEFCE`s recruitment website.

Please note, this is a 2 years fixed-term post.

Closing date: 6th November 2016

Interviewing date: 18th November 2016
