A global challenge for your software development expertise.

Here at the UK Hydrographic Office, we produce nautical publications and services for the Royal Navy and merchant shipping. In order to help us to achieve our objective to be the world’s best provider of hydrographic data services, the very best 24/7 IT support is essential. That's why we need your expertise on board.

Providing software development expertise to our Software Engineering team, you’ll get stuck in to a variety of business critical activities from day one. On any given day, you could be developing new applications or enhancing existing ones, providing technical advice to customers or analysing their requirements and implementing effective solutions. We'll also rely on you to provide estimates for large pieces of work at different stages of the project lifecycle. Conducting reviews of programme methods and specifications, dealing with bugs and documenting changes to systems - you’ll do all of this, and more.

To rise to the challenge, you’ll need to show us that you are up-to-date with development practices, including design principles, unit/automated testing and development methodologies. We'll also be looking for a collaborative approach, the ability to deliver results at pace and good logical reasoning. Well-versed in C# and/or Java and SQL, because you’ll often be working in new areas of work, you’ll also need a flair for solving the unique problems you encounter largely on your own. A willingness to work on-call is also required.

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post for which applicants must be British citizens, citizens of the Irish Republic, a Commonwealth state or EEA nations. Successful applicants will require NSV security clearance; therefore will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
