Set robust and reusable automated tests.

Here at the UK Hydrographic Office, we produce nautical publications and services for the Royal Navy and merchant shipping. Join us, and help us to achieve our objective to be the world’s best provider of hydrographic data services.

Working primarily within a scrum team, you will design, build, test and deploy effective test automation solutions. You’ll also undertake some manual or exploratory testing where automation is not applicable. We’ll look to you to take product backlog items and write automated tests in C# or Java. You’ll work closely with the development teams to improve test coverage, reduce testing time and improve defect identification through automation. You’ll also look analytically and holistically at all testing to ensure tests provide good value for money.

To succeed you’ll need the mindset of a tester to determine the best tests as well as that of a developer to ensure good coding standards. Your experience of writing well structured code, creating robust and reusable tests and implementing best practice in test automation will be backed up by the ISEB or ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. Alongside a proven track record in professional software testing, you will need working knowledge of C# and Java and experience of writing Behaviour Driven Development tests in the form (Given/When/Then). These technical skills will be matched by a flair for collaborating and partnering.

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post for which applicants must be British citizens, citizens of the Irish Republic, a Commonwealth state or EEA nations. Successful applicants will require NSV security clearance; therefore will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of five years.
