The role

The Systems Support Analyst (SSA) is a key member of the IM&T department who manage and support industry wide systems on behalf of our members. Working within a small team, the SSA will be responsible for providing help and guidance on the use of the Rail Industry’s Safety Management Information System (SMIS) and the Close Call System (CCS), as well as working on wide range of support tasks in data management, Business Intelligence solutions and system development and testing.

The SSA will work closely with the system users and his / her team members to develop an understanding of the users’ requirements and ensure their needs are met. Excellent customer service skills and an ability to build good customer relationships, at both user and management levels, are important.

Key responsibilities:

- Provide guidance and business support to all Safety Management Information Systems (SMIS) and Close Call System (CCS) users. This will include recording and managing from start to finish of all customers’ concerns, queries and requests regarding SMIS and CCS structure and content.

- Develop and maintain expertise in SMIS, its reporting applications and its use in meeting reporting requirements set out in Railway Group Standards and relevant legislation.

- Build up and maintain good working relationship with SMIS and CCS users to ensure their requirements in the use of SMIS are being met and that competency levels are maintained. Supporting training activity where necessary.

- Based on experience, feedback or other input, identify potential areas for improvement and enhancement in SMIS content, structure or capabilities, which would assist the rail industry in managing safety. Support the testing of any enhancements to the system.

- Undertake Business Intelligence activity through creating data extraction reports on behalf of SMIS users and maintain the suite of common and organisation specific reports on behalf of the industry. Gain an understanding of user requirements and assist SMIS users in creating their own SMIS reports using the latest reporting software.

- Create and amend guidance material for SMIS and CCS when significant changes are made to the systems; or if there appears to be a gap in user knowledge on aspects of the systems. Ensuring all user material is kept up to date

- Ensure the maintenance tasks of SMIS and CCS are completed on a monthly basis. These tasks include auditing of user accounts, deletion of cancelled SMIS records, publishing the CCS data report on the CCS help site etc.

Requirements

- The ability and willingness to learn new systems and a positive disposition towards problem solving is required as well as good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and with others.

- Knowledge and experience of the rail industry from an operational and/or safety perspective
