IoT Overview

The Internet of Things will profoundly change the way enterprises and customers operate; as more and more physical devices & assets become part of the digital world allowing us to control them, interrogate & extract data from them.

Accenture Digital is at the forefront of helping our clients exploit the benefits of Internet of Things through our Mobility IoT practice. Our industry expertise and broad global footprint makes us a powerful partner to help accelerate growth through digital transformation.

Accenture Digital operates as a strategic business unit working in partnership with Accenture's industry groups to qualify, propose and deliver based on our Digital offers.

The IoT delivery practice team focuses on both consumer and enterprise clients; whether its creating conversational engagements through voice/ chat agents , Connected home OR through industrial IoT focussing on manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, oil and gas, mining, chemicals, utilities, automotive, etc.

The team provide subject matter experts and delivery capability to support IoT sales and projects with Accenture clients.

Demand for our IoT delivery services is growing rapidly and we are currently looking for Software Engineers who are keen to work on the next generation of the IoT applications.

Role Overview

As a Software Developer in IoT, you are passionate about emerging technologies and platforms to build great software experiences across various industries. You know there are multiple ways to build an use-case in software, but you also know by leveraging the right innovation, platforms and accelerators, you can significantly change the way you look at delivery timelines.

When someone says "we have restricted IT environments to implement a use-case" you say "I can show you something better and quicker, and still align with good architecture principles". So where others see impediments in building a software product, you delight others with your varied technology expertise and ecosystem/platform awareness in building whole experiences for our customers.

This is an engineering role and your background will be in using rigorous software engineering practices combined with experience in Front end applications, Middleware/server side programing and Cloud platforms to construct end to end solutions and products.

We are looking for relevant experiences in IoT, with evidence of the quality of your software engineering work. Some of this experience may have been whilst you were studying and working on applications in your spare time. It could be an Alexa skill OR a cloud based server-side accelerator you thought might come in handy for your connected home project.

Qualifications

Qualifications, experience, skills

Ideally you’ll have a degree in a related area - computer science, engineering, mathematics or physics. However, we are more interested in your aptitude for building software, than a specific academic route.

We would expect you to have worked in commercial software. You will be able to demonstrate that you’ve built client and service side applications before and you’ve done it in a systematic way. This could equally be with a small company, your own company, or a large company.

Teamwork and collaboration are important, so communication skills matter. You’ll also share our enthusiasm to work in the rapidly evolving IoT market and see solutions you’ve built launched and working across industries.

What we're looking for

- You have a strong view on what a Micro service is and how it should be used. And if you have strong opinions on API design, we would love to hear them.

- A strong understanding of the various functional components in AWS/AZURE; and be able to explain your experiences in building software in either of those platforms.

- Strong coding abilities. If your passion is in JavaScript, then you can explain the good parts, how scoping works and the various meanings of "this". Your passion for that language will have led you to Node.js.

- Server side MVC application architecture skills. You will be experienced with one or more approaches to modularising data and presentation layer

- Networking knowledge. You know HTTP inside out and you understand how mobile network characteristics differ from wired connection and why this matters. Optimizing for latency, bandwidth or network dropouts are all part of your armoury.

- MQTT, STOMP, AMQP are familiar to you, and so is Bluetooth beacons and RFID; and you will have heard of Z-wave and Zigbee.

- Superb array of debugging skills and an addiction to automation. You would not want to work on a project without Continuous Integration

These are minimum skill sets. We’d be delighted if you can demonstrate more.

It is a major plus point if you have experience in the IoT flavours of AWS or Azure, whether that’s integrating to "things", in-stream analytics or some general passion on Amazon Echo, Google Home or even single board computers or micro controllers.
