The National Biodiversity Network Trust is a charitable organisation with a membership that shares biological data and information. The NBN membership includes most of the UK’s national biological recording schemes and societies, many of the UK’s largest wildlife charities and NGO’s as well as Local Record Centres, government agencies, research institutions, botanic gardens and the public.

To date, over 250 million records have been shared within the NBN. The NBN Trust has recently updated its data sharing infrastructure to make this information accessible in a digitised and exchangeable form, and developed the NBN Atlas.

We are seeking a System Developer to help us with continuous development and maintenance of the NBN Atlas. The Developer’s role will be to provide ongoing development, testing, maintenance and support of the NBN Atlas and all future NBN Atlases. The role will also involve providing guidance, advice and support to a wide range of people from novice users to technical experts. Working as part of a small team, this is a key role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.

The post holder will be expected to be experienced in:

1. Grails and/or Java programming and documentation

2. Web standards and protocols including CSS and Javascript

3. Unix and Linux operating systems

4. Working with relational databases

It is desirable for you to have:

1. knowledge of NoSQL databases

2. Experience of working on Geospatial projects

3. Knowledge of using Lucene and SOLR

Closing date: Monday 8th May

Location: Flexible but with regular travel to Nottingham and London and across the UK. Actual location will depend on where the post holder is based and what option is the most suitable i.e. can be from home, at the Nottingham Office or within one of our member organisations.

Initially a 3-year contract with the potential for permanency.
