Job Summary

As a Data Warehouse Database Administrator, you will optimise, enhance and administer the Bupa UK Business Intelligence database environments. You will work with the reporting analysts and data warehouse developers to ensure optimal hardware, networking, disk performance, indexing and monitoring of our end to end environment. You will be in a role of huge importance to the Business and part of a team that relies on your skills to deliver high performance, complex and real-time data and information to our Customers.

Key Responsibilities

      -     Responsible for performing configuration, administration, and monitoring of multiple, complex databases. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned tasks and provide daily status updates. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

      -     Performing database tuning and performance monitoring; tuning database queries

      -     Monitoring emails and alerts to action and troubleshoot issues

      -     Working as part of a team to provide 24/7 support when required

      -     Performing general technical troubleshooting and giving consultation to development teams

      -     Assisting developers with database activities

      -     Creating database objects (tables, indexes, etc.)

      -     Developing database procedures, functions, and triggers

      -     Maintaining team documentation

      -     Evaluating data quality, consistency, and adherence to standards

      -     Participating in production implementation planning

      -     When on a project, manage the daily activities of the members of the development team. Train, supervise, assigns tasks to, and evaluate the team to maintain optimum performance

      -     Review workloads and analyse resource requirements. Facilitate the development of effective BI requirements through a solid understanding of modern DW tools, techniques, and best practices

      -     Enforce departmental operation procedures, applicable security practices, production policies and support needs to ensure that the quality of service provided meets customer requirements

      -     Evaluate and recommend state-of-the-art development tools for use within the development ecosystem to achieve the most cost-effective, maximum-value solutions

Essential Skills

      -     Migration of DTS packages to SSIS packages

      -     Monitoring, optimising and allocating physical data storage for database systems

      -     Planning and coordinating data migrations between systems

      -     Developing, implementing and maintaining change control and testing processes for modifications to databases

      -     Monitoring database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implementing efficiency improvements

      -     Designing and implementing SQL Failover Clusters

      -     Managing database performance through SQL DMVs, Profiler Traces and Windows Perfmon

      -     Performing migrations/upgrades to new SQL versions with minimal downtime

      -     Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, .net, Azure platform & other cloud based solutions, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS/MSAS)

      -     Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
