Fixed-term for 3 years

A postdoctoral position is available in the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute under the leadership of Dr Daniel Gaffney. The main research focus of our group is to understand how genetic variants influence cellular functions, using a mixture of statistical genetics, machine learning and high throughput functional genomics data. The successful applicant will have the freedom to develop their own research area within the broad interests of the group. The post-holder will also have access to unique, large-scale functional genomicsdata sets generated in human induced pluripotent stem cells that our group has developed as part of the Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Initiative (www.hipsci.org)

Candidates in Biology with a background in quantitative analysis and population genetics are strongly encouraged to apply. We also welcome candidates with a background in Physics, Statistics or Computer Science with strong interests in computational biology. Excellent programming skills, experience with very large data sets and an ability to work as part of a team are essential. Essential Skills

- PhD in a relevant subject area (Computational Biology, Population Genetics/Genomics, Computer Science, Physics)

- Strong publishing record

- Strong statistical and quantitative skills and familiarity with statistical modeling and software

- Excellent programming skills and extensive experience of UNIX/Linux and cluster computing

- Ability to communicate ideas and results effectively

- Ability to work well with other team members

- Ability to work to tight deadlines

Ideal Skills

- Previous experience in population genetic analysis

- Experience with analysis of -omics data sets

- Some familiarity with the stem cell biology
