Create solutions that will help the Met perform at its best
At the heart of the Met lies a key team that’s transforming the way we fight crime. Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) uses cutting-edge technology to create new solutions to help us combat criminals and keep London safe. No other force in the UK has this kind of a function.
To keep London safe and sound, the Met needs to be at its best. That’s why our team is busy designing niche solutions to our trickiest business issues.. And as a Development Engineer, you’ll get to work on projects from design through to implementation and support. It’s fascinating, hands-on work that involves a range of technologies and excellent programming skills . Join us, and you won’t just have a varied, challenging role. You’ll be playing your part in building a Met that’s fit to protect London.
As part of the Development & Implementation team, you’ll be working with some of the more specialist and sensitive parts of the Met organisation. Your main task is to design medium to small specialist IT systems to meet particular needs. You’ll gather requirements and turn these into fully functional products. You’ll also support live systems (fault-finding on-site where necessary) and be on call some evenings and weekends.
You’ll be working in a secure environment, making sure that configuration management is maintained at all times. Expect to tackle design, modelling, prototyping, code production and test and acceptance. As the team works with everything from Antennas to Zip files, you need an IT or Engineering qualification at BTec level or above. We’re also looking for experience of designing, building and fixing live systems, plus strong programming expertise. You should be fluent in a language such as C#. Knowledge of SQL would be an advantage.
In return, we’ll provide on the job training and personal development. With generous benefits, it’s a significant reward package.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
